Family Ministry
NHBC believes that families exist to glorify God as the most fundamental unit of society. From the very beginning God made male and female to be joined together in marriage, to bear children and to populate the earth (Gen. 1-2). Within the family unit God has created an authority structure. Men are to be the heads of their households (Eph. 5:22-23). As husbands and fathers, men are to love, provide, and protect their family. Fathers bear the primary responsibility to teach their children the truths of God’s word. Women are to submit to their husbands and focus their primary efforts on keeping the home (Eph 5; Titus 2). Along with Fathers, Mothers are to teach their children the truths of scripture and raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
The task of shepherding a family is not an easy one in our modern culture, and yet, this task is more urgent than ever. Our desire at NHBC is to help equip parents for the task of leading and discipling their children. While we do believe that children’s ministry and Sunday school is an important part of shaping a child’s worldview, these ministries should serve as supplements to the regular instruction children receive in the home. Therefore, we want to help equip parents for the task of leading family worship in their own households.
Children
NHBC offers Sunday school class for preschool and elementary school age children. Sunday School is centered on a lesson from God’s word and is usually accompanied by singing, crafts, and games.
NHBC offers nursery service for children 4 and under during Sunday morning worship. During nursery, children are taught a short scripture lesson that focuses on the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Children 5 and older are encouraged to sit with their families in the worship service. NHBC encourages families to worship together on Sunday morning.
Youth
On Sunday mornings, the youth of NHBC participate in a Sunday School classes with the rest of the adult members. Wednesday nights offers an opportunity for the youth of our church to spend time together in God’s word and fellowship.
